Regular readers of The Capital Buzz know that I am something of a Scrooge when it comes to professional society holiday parties. Paying for a chance to party with colleagues makes no sense to me, especially when there is no program, just drinks and appetizers.
Enter the Association for Women in Communications (AWC-DC) and The American News Women's Club (ANWC) with the first party to tempt me. It has a beautiful setting (th
e elegant and historic Edwardian townhouse that is the clubhouse of the ANWC), an actual holiday buffet complete with eggnog as well as wine and soft drinks, and shows true holiday spirit because it benefits Kids Café.

They ask that everyone bring books (which are fully tax-deductible donations) appropriate for children ages 5 through 18 to donate to this program of the Capital Area Food Bank which provides after-school snacks, meals, education and social enrichment programs to children who suffer from hunger.
Some ANWC members will be signing current editions of their books and tours of the historic clubhouse will be offered.
